Ethical Policy

Purpose:

To set forth ethical guidelines related to Marketing, Publication, Community Outreach, Media Relations and Development Communications.

Definition:

A. “Public Communications” consists of, but is not limited to:

      1. Utilization of print, billboard, radio, television, internet, and other paid advertising media;
      2. Media relations activity, the development and production of collateral materials;
      3. Communications material designed to support philanthropy; and
      4. Any other communications originating from JHARKHAND CANCER CENTRE  .

B. Educational materials produced by for specific patients about specific conditions, treatments, and procedures are not included under this policy. Such “patient education” materials are developed in accordance with the ethical values outlined below.

Policy:

 A. Jharkhand Cancer Centre   public communications activities serve to:

      1. Inform the community of available services (e.g., health care, medicine and research);
      2. Alert the public to new discoveries and discuss the potential impact of those discoveries;
      3. Provide information valuable to aiding consumers in making sound healthcare choices and understanding major issues in health policy;
      4. Describe the value of  Jharkhand Cancer Centre   services and mission to elicit community support;
      5. Encourage public preference and support and describe newsworthy activities; and
      6. To promote the business objectives of the Medical Center.

B. All external communication will:

        1. Be fair and accurate;
        2. Be complete and make choices clear;
        3. Be consistent with Vanderbilt’s values and credo and conflict of interest policies;
        4. Be consistent with regulatory and accreditation requirements; and
        5. Protect patient confidentiality.

C. Submit all marketing, news, and public affairs communications to the Head of Marketing for review and approval before being implemented. Approval is based on adherence to  Jharkhand Cancer Centre  guidelines, detailed below. Persons not directly involved with the marketing, news, and public affairs communications plan under consideration are consulted as necessary.

Special Instructions:

    1. All communications are consistent with the established values as expressed in  JHARKHAND CANCER CENTRE   Mission and Vision statements.
    2. Communications promote the best interest of the public by enabling them to make an informed choice.
    3. Communications claims do not raise unrealistic expectations or make unjustified representations of favourable results. Statistical evidence, such as success rates and outcomes, is documented carefully and communicated carefully.
    4. Communications do not endorse the use of excessive, unnecessary, or unproved healthcare services.
    5. Communications are truthful, accurate, fair, and complete. Claims and coverage are not false, misleading, coercive, or insensitive to the health care needs of the public.
    6. The results of patient surveys or market research materials and research results and data are kept confidential and reported only in the aggregate unless the respondent approves other use.
    7. Communications should not refer to the deficiencies of a competitor. Objectively measure and fully substantiate any comparison with competitors.
    8. Communications that include cost information are accurate and complete.
